Youth Interfaith Congress in India

'Youth for Unity' a youth branch of the Focolare movement founded by Chiara Lubich, is planning to take a group of young people aged between fourteen to seventeen from Britain to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in Southern India from 6-13 August, 2009. They will take part in an international and inter-religious event which has come about through the collaboration between Youth for Unity and the Hindu Shanti Ashram movement, inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

Supercongress is an international festival led by teenagers for teenagers of different cultures and faiths every five years. they propose a new lifestyle, based on the universal values already present in the various cultures, such as peace, solidarity and the culture of giving. Their goal is to involve the young people in bring about universal fraternity. In 2009 it will be centred on the 'Golden Rule', present in the sacred books of most world religions: 'Do to others as you would like them to do to you'. Through experiences, songs, dance and other artistic expressions, the young people will present their initiatives and activities where they are already living out this 'rule'in situations of poverty, in the field of ecology, in areas of conflict, and all the other ways in which they are helping to build a more united world.
